About us

RickThe saying that it takes a village to raise a child is true even before birth at Village Perinatal. We’re honored to be part of the dedicated team of doctors, nurses and other caregivers that brings our patients’ babies into the world.

This philosophy starts with our founder and medical director, Dr. Richard Benoit. Dr. Benoit is passionate about personally providing outstanding care to mothers and their unborn babies. His commitment to care was inspired by hearing stories about his own difficult birth. Dr. Benoit was a breech baby and his mother had a very difficult delivery that she barely survived. Her doctors frightened her into not having any more children. Dr. Benoit wants to give other women a level of prenatal care that empowers them to make informed choices and allays many of the fears that come with pregnancy.

He has made it his mission to pursue a top education and share his knowledge with his patients’ families to help them realize their dreams. Dr. Benoit studied at Brown University for undergraduate and medical school. He completed his OB-GYN residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and then his Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at Yale, where he also obtained a Masters in Public Health. While at Yale, Dr. Benoit was also featured on an episode of TLC’s “Maternity Ward.”

In addition to his academic training, Dr. Benoit has conducted field research projects in Cali, Colombia; Madeira, Portugal; and on Native American reservations in Montana and Wyoming. He has published and presented on a variety of pregnancy care and obstetrical ultrasound research topics.

He speaks Spanish and Portuguese, and is a certified medical translator.
